2001 LXi Sedan

just got this car a couple weeks ago. The a/c seems to be done, and i'm taking it in to my guy tomorrow. all the talk about the 2.7 v6 engine has me freaked out. anything i can do to prevent the total breakdown i've read about?

Re: 2001 LXi Sedan

The best thing you can do is to keep up on the maintenance and don't go slack, if anything go a little overboard from what you normally do, frequent oil + filter change and change the pcv often. another thing you can look into is this link I found:

http://www.fix27.com/

If you did have a tensioner failure or low oil pressure problem, this will prevent the timing chain from going slack and bending valves, however, if you lose enough oil pressure to effect the tensioner, the bottom end of the motor will need rebuilt even though this should save the top end. I think it is probably worth it, they quoted me $25 for the stop block, but if I had to pay someone to put it in, I would have to think about it. Also, if there is any noises in the motor, get them looked into immediately, don't wait until the engine is scrambled. good luck.
