Ford Taurus LX 95 shuts off while driving
I have a ford taurus 1995 LX that just recently shuts down while driving, it seems to shut down when the engine reaches running temp.
here is a detailed description. Ill get in the car, it will drive fine. I will drive about 3 miles and it will just randomly turn off, the engine dies and the rpm jumps about but the engine never is throttled at all, i put it in park and turn the key to off, wait about 20 min and i can go about another 2 miles before it does it again... About three weeks before this i installed a new oil filter and replaced the oil, i checked the oil and its fine, i have done that atleast 6 times already so i know it was done right, but shortly after that the car started having problems starting on the first time, ill turn the key and it wouldnt start, then id let the key off and the check engine light would turn on, if i tried to turn on the car too fast the car would make the sound like it was already on, so i wait two seconds and turn and its fires right up. There you have it, i hope it will have an answer. its a V6 3.0L Engine and i have no idea what the problem is but i really cant pay 100 dollars to have them put it on the old code reader. I really hope you guys have had similar problems and can provide me with the solution. |

Re: Ford Taurus LX 95 shuts off while driving
Taking guesses and blindly replacing parts costs way more than 100 bucks.. I would suggest, if you're planning on keeping this car, to go spend around 30 or so, get yourself a reader, learn how to use it, see what you get for code(s),, as to the problem, it's a tough one.. possibly the fuel pump or relay may be overheating and shutting down, but like I said, it could be any of several things.. replacing the fuel pump alone could cost a couple, three hundred dollars... you need to get some sort of diagnosis by QUALIFIED repair, in order to save yourself money.. of course once in a while we all luck out and hit it the first time, rarity though.
