REITs

My mom is looking to possibly invest $40k in real estate investment trusts and came to me for advice since I'm the new business graduate. However REITs were only glanced over in my commercial banking class so I don't know much about them. I know how they work and found some info but if anybody has done any real esate investing and has tips, that would be helpful.

The reason for the investment is to create some cash flow to help cover my little sisters last 4 semesters at college (about $28k total). I'm currently looking at Simon Property Group, CBL $ Assoc, General Growth Properties, and Developers Diversified Realty. Anbody invested with them or heard anything of note about them?

Re: REITs

Wish I could be of more help. But I do work for a Sub-Prime Mortgage company (one of the ones that won't be gone by next year). I would do as much research as you can.

I'm not familiar with REITs, but with how the RE market is currently it may be a risky one. But with risk, comes reward.

Good luck to your mom!
