Re: Whats The Purpose Of A Hydraulic Fan?

I wondered the same when I first got my 2000 LS V8. The sales guy at the dealership said (and take this with a grain of salt) it was because the electrical system could not handle the load of an electric fan.

I looked at a 2006 about 6 months ago and seemed to have "fixed" the electrical strain issue since it didn't have the hydraulic fan.

Re: Whats The Purpose Of A Hydraulic Fan?

hydral;ic fans are very common on euro vechiles and this was some influence from Jaguar - who used these fans a various models. the 2003+ alternators were upgraded to handle the additional load and were converted to electric fans.
