99 4WD Indicator lites intermittent

In 2HI, the 2HI Indicator lite is on solid when I start, but soon goes out. Same if I put it in Auto4. If I push the switch again, the lite may come on while I hold the Sw, but goes out when I release. It transfers to 4HI or 4LO ok, but not sure about the lites on that side.

Sounds like a bad switch.

Thumbs up Re: 99 4WD Indicator lites intermittent

Take the switch assembly out of the dash and open it up carefully. Take a small 'electronics' soldering iron and 'refresh' each solder lug on the circuit board of the switch by touching the iron to the lug just until the solder begins to melt. This happened to mine and I couldn't figure out what to do and didn't want to spend the $60+ that the dealer wanted to replace it. Then I remembered this same thing happened on my motorcycle with an air suspension controller. The solder lugs get corroded and become slightly loosened from the circuit board and cause this intermittent or complete failure depending which lugs are affected. Good Luck!
