is it a light tick? or really loud? if you drive past someone walking on the sidewalk do you think they can hear it?

Re: Tick.Tick.Tick. Where?

I was told by a mechanic, that it is the timing chain. I had to get my head replaced and even with the head off he told me it is a time consuming project. My car is 95 2.2 litre coupe, Do you think this could have anything to do with the hesitation/engine shuttering im experiencing? I tried the leads and plugs but that didn't help... Fuel Pump?

Re: Tick.Tick.Tick. Where?

Do you have the 2.2L OHV engine, you didn't mention the year? If it is the pushrod L4, then when was the last time you changed your oil? I've found that with pushrod engines, a ticking noise like you are describing is the engine telling you to change the oil. Oh, btw, most likely it is lifter noise you are hearing.

Re: Tick.Tick.Tick. Where?

as much as this is just a cheap fix I had a 79 cutlass supreme with the same problem so when I changed the oil I also added an oil addiditive to stop noisy lifters and it actually worked really well with that car. This does not really fix your problem more then covers it up but if all you want to do is get rid of the noise.
