vr-4 transmission...

ok, so figure you want a 6 speed on the base model 3000GT

the synchros are probably bad on any decent transmission one could find, and it would be hard most likely to find just the transmission alone anyway...

but can anyone say for sure if it would make any benifits or not to swap it out, besides the fact of it being a pain in the ass, and realistic issues such as having no connection to a rear drive shaft?

are the gear ratios better for that much that it might be worth it?

Instead of all that jibberish, you could have just asked a simple question. Better yet...searched.

But to answer all that, no it's not worth it for a base, not enough power for the gear ratios. VCU can be welded to make it FWD only.

Re: vr-4 transmission...

i'm assuming you want the 6spd for better mpg on the highway in 6th gear?

if so, do a search for "taller 5th gear". www.teamrip.com makes them for the FWD transmissions. i have one, its awesome.

you have a 300hp AWD twin turbo sports car. quit whining about gas mileage and remember the reason you purchased your car.

Re: vr-4 transmission...

i dont care about MPG (that much), i just want a little higher cruising speed. I'd be happy with a 5th gear as tall as 6th is on the 6-speeds....100mph @3k

I don't think it'll make that much of a difference. Personally I don't care about gas mileage, I cruise at 80 in 4th-5th half the time just randomly hitting it to hear my bov...or to let others hear it

But really...converting to 6-speed is going to cost you more than it'll end up saving you on gas...that's just not a good financial decision.
