Tach help

My tach is acting really messed up. At 3500 rpms the needle starts bouncing around and goes upto 9000. Last time i checked, my car doesn't rev that high. Any clue on what is wrong with it. It was working till just about a month ago.

Dude...that could be a sign of dizzy problems or that your ignitor is failing. Call Honda with your VIN number (provided you still have the original engine in it) and see if the ignitor was ever replaced. There was a recall on ignitors in the 80's & early 90's and they will replace it for free I think. At least they did that for mine a while back with 90K+ on it.

If you want, you can buy a cheapy ignitor from AutoZone, but with ignition and internal engine parts, I always buy OEM Honda cuz everything else sucks.

It could - I have had a few problems with my back lights on my cluster going out. Twice I have had to pull open the cluster cover by the windshield and clean up the contacts where the cluster plugs into the car. I think the location of the plug right inthe blazing sun of the windshield, expands and contracts those plugs a lot, causing poor connections.

I dunno if those bulletins expire. I know that during 4th gen Civic production and maybe also 2nd - 3rd gen Accord production, Honda had ignitor troubles, and they were replacing them for free. Mine was replaced in like 1995 - 96 so the car was only 5 years old at the time. My current ignitor has 110K on it.

It is an aftermarket Tach though. My car didn't come with a Tach from the factory.
