Help! 85 Vw Jetta!
I have an 85 VW Jetta, 1.8L gas. My engine will "turn", but it will not "Fire". Have ran through every test my manual gives, says many things are fried. Fuel pump works when certain circuits are activated. Seems like getting fuel pressure, cant test though. No spark coming from distributor, no fire coming from ignition coil, and im totally out of ideas and options. HELP NEEDED ASAP!!!!!!!

Re: Help! 85 Vw Jetta!
We're gonna need some more info here. First of all, what tests have you run? what is fried? Is there voltage at the coil? You should be getting 12v at the coil when the ignition is on. Reference your manual for instructions. Once we have this info, we can help you.

And can we assume you have actually seen the rotor turning with the distributor cap off while cranking the engine.
My first guess with any motor having a belt driven camshaft, is that the belt has slipped a couple of teeth - though I guess you would still get spark from the distributor in that case. |

Re: Help! 85 Vw Jetta!
Check your timing - especially that of the distributer. It may be 180 degrees out. Make sure you didn't switch the spark plug wires. Check to see if you have a spark coming from the wires. You could be getting a spark, but it's firing at the wrong time. If no spark at all, then check the coil as stated above. If you have power at the coil start checking the distributer. Bad plug or ignition wires? Check your rotor. Spin the engine with the cap off and make sure the rotor is turning. Check your distributer cap. Try spraying some starter spray in the intake hose and crank it. Maybe you aren't getting fuel in the cylinders.
