Newbie Bashing

(this is just a rant)
I was on honda-tech earlier today, and I saw the worst newbie flaming ever. (http://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=330286)
All because he spelled like v-tech, everyone (more than 20) had a smartass comment about the phone vtech and shit. Makes me upset to see a technical forum full of dicks. I guess thats one reason I dont post shit no more.

Give a newbie a break, everyone started off as one at some point.

its good to know that some people agree. h-t is full of cocks (not all but some) and i'm sick of seeing posts of newbies getting flamed. Out of the 30+ replies he got, only maybe 2-3 actually helped him. what a great "technical" forum..

That is typical. Even though I post on there frequently I don't get into their flamewars. It is pretty pointless if you ask me. If the guy spelled something wrong just pm him and let him know so he doesn't do it next time. You don't have to drive him off the board just because he doesn't have mad VTEC spelling skills. Just my thoughts

I think its okay to flame somebody who spells V-TECH. you'd expect to get flammed if you go into a Dodge chat and say something about "Moeparr". Sure everybody has to start out at the bottom, but everybody can also do a simple web search before they start busting in on message boards and asking stupid questions. The best way to learn something is to research it yourself not listen to other people.

you guys keep forgetting...this isn't a tech spot. you should expect tech from a place called honda-tech. but as for this place, its for all 88-91 civic owners. for show, go, sound, or just a place to meet other 4th gen owners. i don't ever want this forum to be strictly tech. places like that only chase other people away. ya dig?

i agree h-t gives good help and tips. but what i see more are people telling others to use the search function. if you know the answer to a newbie question, why not answer it if you know it.

busting someones balls for a spelling error isnt cool. and about stupid questions, it may be stupid to some, but valid to another. so why flame?

Looks like they have newbies who are quick to front like they are all that also.

Funny thing is Dark syde you will probably read this post for replies until it goes away.... Ok first of all... I should hope that the guy understands that it IS only the damned internet, its only words, and they mean nothing... Ok so the guy messed up, and more to point made a very common mistake... I mean its possible that his valve cover doesnt even have VTEC written on it, such as the sohc vtec D16y8's.. Anyway dude, I have had a pretty warm welcome, although I know this board quite well, just haven't posted really all that much. I just used it for tech... Search function works wonders.... BUT if I were to make a mistake, or ask a useless question such as "Can I put a CAI on my car? How do I put it on?" and got flamed I wouldn't get mad... I would just prolly figure out that its a question that is asked alot, and SO is the VTEC/VTECH mistake.
ALSO, just to let ya know, since I know you are reading, this board does not care about making anyone happy so to speak. This is a technical board, and having said that you have to remember that some of these people are really good at what they do, and some of em aren't as good, but when they flame someone, to me I think of it as an initiation, or trial by fire or something. Think about it... Someone says something stupid... You flame the shit out of them, and if they stay, well they learned not to say aforementioned stupidity, if they leave, well they probably didn't belong anyway. I think that makes this one of the best boards out there for that. People are really helpful when you need help, and you just have to get used to the fact that they are quick to flame if you slip... MOVE ON dude. Dont come on here talkin mad smack before you have had time to see how everything works...

Anyone who can't spell V-TeCH properly deserves a good flaming. No sympathy here, but I do have a box of tissues if needed
