'96 Lumina Van Won't Idle

The other day while I was driving, my car started sputtering like I was out of gas, but I had just put gas in. Then it died on me and and took a while to start, I had to pump the gas pedal before it would start and I can't let go of the gas or it will die. It keeps happening. What could this be? A friend said it might be the fuel filter but I have no idea. I had the fuel injector regulator changed a few months ago so that can't be it. Please help!

if happened right after fueling, maybe a load of water in the gas?
