Engine Question.

I want to know if anyone else with a 2.0 has a engine speed problem. My '03 Elantra GLS keeps revving sometime when I come out of gear. It stays up for a second and then it comes down. What's up with that? Is it normal? angryfire:

I'd get it checked at a dealership. I'm sure that you are still under warranty. I have heard of cars from other manufactuers doing that kind of thing. GM had to recall Luminas because they would rev wildly.

I seem to have just the opposite problem with my 2003 Elantra, when I am idleing or at a stop sign or light my car shutters like it is going to stall. I have already had it in once and they could not duplicate my problem, so it goes back in tomorrow.

the high idle speed problem is very common in the new models, there is an ECM flash that fixes this problem and also smoothens out the power curve, take it to the dealer and ask them to find the TSB number...

either way, i have heard that the TSB number for this problem is: 0136025

BUT, before you open your mouth to the dealer, ask them to find the tsb first, and compare it to the one i gave you, if it matches, then have them do it... if they cant find the tsb, offer them the one i showed you and ask them to look it up and read the specs, it should say that its an ECM flash that fixes high rpm idle speed.

GOOD LUCK ! i hope this helps.

2.0 Engine

I have a 2001 Elantra with a 2.0 in it and it does the exact same thing. I took it to the dealership they said they could find not a thing wrong with it. Said bring it back if it does it again. It still does on occasion. Scared to death to take my car there except for oil changes. They messed my scoupe up horribly.

if your car is an automatic theres a TSB for a smooth shift /accelation reprogram, and it also sounds like your TPS ( trottle position sensor ) isnt responding. it tells TCM when at a certain rpm to upshift or downshift gears. or your tranny could be going. ive been doing a few of elantra trannies a month
