Brakes Question

I searched the forum and found a good post and plenty of replies re: cross drilled rotors back in April. I'm glad I found this because I am ordering brakes for the 93 VR4 (getting it on the road - FINALLY) and was about to get a set of four Stillen cross drilled rotors & pads. It seemed the consensus was blank OEM style rotors are the way to go as drilled crack and slotted eat the pads.

I don't mind if I need pads every 2 or 3 years but if I'm replacing them once a year that's a problem. I believe the ones recommended in that other post were for an SL - can anyone tell me where to find either a decent set of slotted that don't eat pads like crazy or adequate blanks that can save me some cash for the VR4? I'm thinking $600 for Stillen rotors/pads is a bit excessive now that I've sifted through all previous replies. Thanks in advance...

Re: Brakes Question

1. No matter what slotted rotors you buy they will eat through pads faster. That is the nature of the beast.

2. No matter what cross-drilled rotors you buy they are a waste of money not only because they're more prone to cracking but because they will reduce your braking performance.

3. The best thing I can recommend for a street car are some good pads, some good "blank" rotors, and some SS flex lines. You can find Brembo blanks relatively inexpensive. I found a set of rear Brembos for my TT for $100, and as I recall the fronts were about the same.

QFT!

get some ss braided brake lines, some nice pads (EBC, HAWK, etc), good blank rotors (only if your current ones are toast), and bleed the entire brake system putting new fluid DOT 4 at least (Motul RBF 600 is some nice fluid) and the brakes should feel much better.

Re: Brakes Question

Can anyone recommend a website to find these items? Especially the Brembo rotors for $100/pair.

EDIT: Are these the discs I should be buying (ones at the top of the list)? Decent price at <$70 per rotor?

Re: Brakes Question

from the link, it looks like they will work fine. did you not try to find Brembo rotors? IPS motorsports has quite a selection of brake rotors. here are some Brembo front blanks for $138/pair

send a PM to Polygon asking him where he found his rotors for $100/pair.

SS braided brake lines

Supercar Engineering, IPS Motorsports, and 3SX have a good selection of brake pads.

any synthetic DOT4 brake fluid would be a good choice. Motul RBF 600 is one of the best. both Supercar Engineering and 3SX carry this.

i would also recommend some speed bleeders so you can bleed the brakes by yourself. 3SX and Supercar Engineering carry these.
