Leaking tranny (AT) OK to drive short distance?
Hello All Chevy guys/gals
The mystery of the the AT suddenly leaking after being parked a couple week was solved back in July (page 2 ) Under the title below. ('64 Powerglide suddenly leaking when parked?) Thanks to Boss 396 and Blue Bowtie. I have a drip pan underneath ; I'm not sure if its still leaking; I will check. But if I get the motor running would it be ok for the tranny to drive 3-4 miles or 10 on freeway to a mechanic or its necessary to have it towed? Thanks , Rick PS. Below is a short description of the original problem. Hello, Brad Bergholdt an auto repair insturctor who writes a column for the San Jose Mercury has an article 5/11/7 about a tranny on a '97 Camaro leaking after being parked awhile. Like some of the forum people he says it probably is due to torque converter drain back and tempory oil pan over filling and a faulty oil pan gasket, dipstick tube o-ring or throttle-valve calble o-ring. He says it can be easily fixed. |

Unless the leak is incredibly bad, I'd say fill it up and run for it. Pick a route where you won't be sitting in traffic too long. The 10 mile freeway run might be a good idea. Bring a couple of extra quarts and a funnel just in case.
