Replaced the battery, car stalled after 2 seconds and won't crank
My battery was leaking and did not take a charge, so today I replaced it with a new battery. It started, but then two seconds later, the engine suddenly died and now it won't even crank. I disconnected it and it started for a few seconds, then died again. I tried disconnecting it a second time, but it will no longer even crank. My car is a 2003 9C1.
The battery is fully charged, everything in the car has power, but it will not crank. When the key is in the ON position, the radio displays "CAL ERR" between song/station, no idiot lights are on, and the info panel flashes between "low fuel" (my tank is full) and "service vehicle" soon. It did display "security" at one point, but now it doesn't. For some reason, the transmission gear positions aren't displayed either. Only the odometer is displayed. I checked all the fuses with a multimeter and they all passed. The car is not hot, so I doubt it's that built in overheat protection. I tried the spare key too.. nothing Please help! EDIT: The first time the engine died, I remember moving around a harness near the battery; the engine died the second I moved it. It may or may not have been a coincidence. I have no idea what it is called, so here's some pics: ![]()

Hi,
I have a similar problem with my 95 impreza. Please post the solution you were able to come up with. Thanks! |

Re: Replaced the battery, car stalled after 2 seconds and won't crank
Turns out the wire that provides power to the PCM shorted out somewhere, so we just ran a new wire into the harness and hooked it up to a power source in the fuse box. Took forever to find, but nothing was really broken.
