1999 Big Engine Swap

Hey everyone. I have a question that may seem ridiculous and if it is please tell me so. I have a 1999 intrepid with over 150,000 miles on it. My last car had a significantly more powerful engine and I did some work on it that made it much fster than it appeared. I like having cars that look stock but reall roar... So my question is this, if I were to drive this engine to its life limit, all the while saving my money, would it save me money to drop a big v-8, or possibly a viper v-10 in it, or would the cost of the larger engine and the necessary parts needed to modify the chassis to hold that much more power be close to a whole new car that already has a bigger, stronger engine in it. Basically I'd like to know whether it would cost more to drop a big engine into my intrepid, or to just buy a fast car. Thanks for all your opinions!

Re: 1999 Big Engine Swap

putting a V8 is possible, a couple of guys over on dodgeintrepid.net have done that. but i wouldnt do it
do you have a 2.7, 3.2 or 3.5??
you can get the 3.5HO to put out around 280hp
you would spend about 25k on it and if you want the SRT-10 engine in it you are looking at about 12k on just the engine if not more
my advice is to drop a 3.5HO in it
