2002 Trailblazer recall question.

Hello all,

I have 2 quick questions. Both regarding recalls. I had my 02 TB in for the recall regarding the brake light circuit board a few years back. If I recall correctly, they claim to have replaced the circuit board. I am burning up a brake light a week for the last month. Has anyone ever had an issue with the dealer NOT repairing what they claimed they had repaired regarding the recall? If I take it to the dealer (a different dealer) would they repair it under the original recall? The small metal part (connector) on the bulb looks to burn and melt into the plastic part of the bulb in the same place everytime. How much is the circuit board or the socket? Also, I received a recall card a few years back indicating their was a problem with the seat belts. It described the test to check the problem yourself. I checked them, had no problems and responded on the card mailer that they were fine. My passenger seat belt is now having the EXACT symptoms described in the recall. Will the dealer replace this even though I replied that at the time the problem was non-existent? Thanks for any help you can give.

I believe recalls are able to be fixed at any time of the life of the vehicle, since they're considered to be a safety issue. If you feel better doing it this way, sure, take it to a different dealership, because obviously the initial dealership didn't do it right the first time.

The tail light circuit boards are a different brand usually when the replacements are put in. Couldn't hurt to use a phillips-head screwdriver and with the back hatch open, take off each of the rear tail light assemblies from the truck. No need to completely remove them, etc, but just make a small mark with a sharpie on each of the circuit boards where you can check afterwards that they were replaced. That's the way I always 'double-check' the dealership's work if I don't trust them.

As far as the seat belt, same deal. Just tell them that you know of the recall for the seat belts and that you fear that your passenger is not safe when riding in the truck. They should have no problem finding the recall and getting them both taken care of for you.

All in all, DON'T LEAVE THE DEALERSHIP UNTIL YOU'RE SATISFIED!! If something comes up (i.e., they do not replace the tail light CB's because they found that they were already done) ... then ask for their manager/supervisor/etc and tell them that you expect this to be done right the first time, and if necessary you will register a complaint with GM for the shoddy "safety recall" service that you recieved from that dealership. That will most certainly let them know that you're serious, and that they will be fixing both recalls in question.

I doubt you'll have any problem with either, really, as these recalls for the innaugural model year (2002) were well documented and easy to test for and replace.
