a/c compressor high pitched squeal
I have this high pitched "cutting glass" sound from my A/C compressor when the a/c is OFF...when i turn it on and the pump kicks on the sound disapears. It was there a month ago and I soaked some spray-oil in arounf the crack between the inner and outer part of the a/c and it shut it up until now. My guess is bearing, wonder if I should soak it again?

Re: a/c compressor high pitched squeal
It's a bad compressor clutch bearing in the pulley. When the A/C is off, the pulley spins free (or is supposed to), when the A/C is running the clutch and pulley are locked together, so the noise goes away. Have the clutch bearing replaced and the noise will go away.....

Re: a/c compressor high pitched squeal
Yep, I have it as well, its a common problem with our compressors apparently. I havent done it yet because im cheap, my AC still works, and the compressor is a PITA to get too, and I dont want to remove it.

Re: a/c compressor high pitched squeal
well, i took a bottle of oil and put it in the crack between the two pulleys, trying my best to keep it off the belt, and it shut it up again so i think that may be a temp fix. On another note, i just topped up my a/c and i can see my breath! woo! I just baught the kit at the autoparts store that you attach the the low side a/c line and have it suck the can into your system. Before i had the hot drivers side and cool passengers side problem, now the passengers side it ICE cold and the drivers side is just cool. So theres still something going on there im not sure...all I know is it seems like a VERY common issue.
