86.5 N/A supra questions?

I have been doing a little research on this car since I got it. It was in a minor front end collision that I was able to fix, I only paid 350 for it. I needed an alternator and belts and it runs. Now for the questions. It seems a little weak to me, it doesn't have alot of punch. I haven't driven one before so I have no frame of referance for this car. I had an 85 celica gts and it was much quicker than this. The other thing is the small radiator light is on but the temp gauge doensn't fluctuate at all and I'm not getting any thing in the oil like a bad head gasket would cause. It also doesn't seem to burn any oil. Is there anything else I should be looking for? I also seem to get slight pinging if I really step on it from say 55-60 up in fifth gear, is this normal? I'm not sure of the mileage of the car the speedo is broken at 98,000 I'm sure it's well beyond that. It's a fun car to drive I took it to an auto cross yesterday very fun. I need a tire upgrade and if anyone has some suspension and engine upgrades that are affordable I would love to hear them.

um yeah something is really wrong with your car!. my car ran a high 15 stock. even if you have an auto your car should be a mid to upper 16. do a compression check imm.!!
