Re: schematic wiring diagram

FSM, and aftermarket manuals have a series, or should say pages of schematics that are copy protected. Good luck finding 'em for "free" on the internet. What system on your car are you particularly concerned about?

Re: schematic wiring diagram

The system I am interested in is the fuel system........the wiring from the sending unit fuel pump module to the fuel gauge............. I have a 2000 pontiac grand prix se with 116,000 miles.....I put in a new sending unit fuel pump module and the fuel gauge still goes to empty.....I grounded the sending unit wire and the fuek gauge goes to empty........If I establish a new ground wire for the sending unit .......will that work..........or did I just get a bad sending unit ??????.also if i were to pull the module out of the tank and move the float by hand would that show on the fuel gauge ?????? any help would be appreciated........

that would be a good way to check to make sure it is working, try that.

You might check your local public library. They usually have an extensive selection of auto repair manuals. If then don't have what your looking for, they might be able to get it from some other local library in the area. I found one for my 92 3.4L.

Re: schematic wiring diagram

I had the same problem with my 2000 GT. The problem was in the wiring harness in the engine compartment. The PCM is in the air box and there is a large harness that comes out the airbox and runs down under the a/c accumulator. The harness rubs against the accumulator housing and wears through the wires inside. Its hard to get at, I found 5 broken wires in mine. After repairing the wires, everthing works perfectly. Hope this helps.

Re: schematic wiring diagram

This sounds like the same problem that I am having with my car, check my thread: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=746348

GrandPrixDriver was the pcm wiring the source of your problem?

Re: schematic wiring diagram

The fuel sending unit in your gas tank is like a variable resistor, the resistance changes depending on how much gas is in the tank. The sending unit is connected to the PCM which converts the signal into digital data. The PCM perfoms some calcualtions using this data and sends out digital data to the the cluster and drivers information display on a serial data line. So if your drivers information display is indicating the correct MPG, range and gallons used, the fuel sending unit is probably working properly, the problem is likely to be in the wiring between the PCM and the cluster. That was what I found wrong with mine. My problem started with the service engine light coming on. Then the fuel gauge stopped working. Later on the drivers information display quit working and finally the traction control (I know, I should have checked it out sooner..lol). A friend at a dealer told me GM issued a TSB about the engine wiring. Problems in this harness can cause all kinds of problems like the trac control, ABS light, stalling, wont start and various electrical system failures. If you dont know it already, the PCM is in the airbox. On the side or the airbox are 2 big wiring harnesses. The one on the bottom is routed downwards and runs past the A/C accumulator. On some vehicles, the harness rubs against the accumulator mounting ring, causing wires inside to break. I checked mine, and sure enough there were 5 broken wires. I spliced them together and and all my problems went away ( yeah!). I know this was long winded, but hopefully it will help some of you understand how the fuel gauge works before going out and spending a bunch of money on a sending unit, cluster or PCM.
