Addicted to Metal

It's everyone's fault here for pushing Metallica and Dethklok on me, I've been listening to a lot of Metallica's songs recently, Ride the Lightning, Fuel, Whiskey in the Jar, Ecstasy of Gold (priceless btw), then I found Megadeth (don't know why i never listened to them before) and I'm listening to Die Dead Enough and Symphony of Destruction nonstop. I'm also getting into heavier music as a reaction to this, and I watch a bit more Metalocalypse, and I'm liking the music now, especially, AWAKEN --AWAKEN-- MUSTAKRAKISH, that episode rocks!! But I still don't think I have an aptitude for bands like Slayer and Lamb of God. I guess I could try them out.

Here's another band I bet most of you haven't heard, Anew Revolution, with Rise (aka, Stand the F**K Up and Rise), Saddest Song, and Cave In. They're nowhere's near as technical as 90's metal but the songs are good.

Re: Addicted to Metal

That's a GOOD thing. Just discovered a new band called Threat Signal after hearing them on Sirius. I can't stop listening to them. They're like old-school Fear Factory back in the Demanufacture days. It's a great album. Check them out if you get a chance.

Re: Addicted to Metal

Threat Signal is solid. I got their new album a while ago and it's pretty sweet.

As far as other good thrash bands, check out Anthrax and Testament...you'll probably like them if you're liking Metallica and Megadeth.

Re: Addicted to Metal

AH Metal.

It starts off just as Metallica, then it gets more progressive :-) You have many, many years to catch up on. We all do in a sense

Solid bands:

Nevermore
In Flames
Opeth
Sevendust (oldschool)
Trivium
Disturbed
Dark Tranquility
Chimaira (fuck yeah!)
Iced Earth
Pantera

It's all good.

Re: Addicted to Metal

Metallica and Megadeth is like mainstream thrash. Slayer is thrash, too, but heavier, maybe you'd like something like Anthrax. Listen to earlier Anthrax, as the new vacalist is the guy from Slipknot... oh no. Davo's right about Nevermore, too, they have a lot of thrash influence, as well as power and death. Another thrash band you should check out is a german band called Kreator, they're fucking great. Moving more into a hard-core background, but something i still consider metal, try out Mastodon, i love 'em. Check out songs like March of the Fire Ants, Blood and Thunder, Crystal Skull. Also, blindside mentioned Fear Factory, listen to their older stuff, you may enjoy that a lot, too. (Threat Signal was pretty good, personally never got into 'em though)

Dethklok is very much death metal inspired, i mean, Nathan Explosion is based off Corpsegrinder from Cannibal Corpse, lol. Check out that band, songs like Gallery of Suicide, Fucked with a Knife, Skull Full of Maggots. If you like intense death metal from america like that, also check out Nile. Another good death metal band that is easy to get into is Amon Amarth, they're from Sweden, very cool viking metal band singing about wars and battles and cool shit like that. Check out songs like Death in Fire, In Persuit of Vikings, Fate of Norns. The Skwisgaar solo's are actually Jeff Loomis in the earlier episodes, so songs like the Coffee Jingle and Mustakrakish have the guitarrist from Nevermore, a second reason for you to check out that band.

Re: Addicted to Metal

Anthrax is good but I'm really getting into Nevermore, they've got a really great sound. I Like some songs by In Flames but some are too heavy screaming, for instance, I listen to Take this life and think it's awesome but Scream is too much screaming. That's just how I feel about it.I'll give everything a chance now though.

Re: Addicted to Metal

Pantera is pretty sweet! Check out The Great Southern Trendkill or Far Beyond Driven. Their live album is pretty sweet too. Metallica was my favorite band growing up; I still consider them a favorite today. But my appreciation of Metallica led me to Pantera, so you need to listen to them.

Re: Addicted to Metal

Vinny's right about Amon Amarth...fucking awesome. Saw 'em at Sounds of the Underground a couple weeks ago and they slayed.

Another decent newer thrashish band is Shadows Fall, especially their older albums. Check 'em out if you get a chance.

And along the lines of Scandinavian bands, The Haunted, Arch Enemy and Children of Bodom are all worth checking out.

If you want to hear stuff from any of these bands, PM me and I'll hook you up with some of their stuff.

Re: Addicted to Metal

same as 93, if you want any of the songs i've mentioned, just pm me. You know, i'm listening to Kreator right now, you'd really like 'em if you liked Megadeth. You should listen to the album Violent Revolution.

Re: Addicted to Metal

Check out Machine Head too (don't know if they've been mentioned yet). Their new album, The Blackening, is thrashtastic. I've been listening to it non-stop since it came out.

Re: Addicted to Metal

What, no exodus? Blasphemy! Fucking hell, everybody forgets about exodus!

Exodus > the likes of metallica and megadeth

On the topic of thrash, check out melechesh- blackend thrash metal

On the topic of in flames, IMO they went from bad to worse

Re: Addicted to Metal

Okay now here's what I want to know, why do most metal fans say slipknot sucks? I like their sound, that's why I'm asking.

Who the F#^K are the Eagles of Death Metal? The lead singer reminds me of the guy from the village people.

The album you've taken those two songs off isn't the best to start on.

Look up album tracks from Whoracle, Colony, and perhaps Jester Race and download some random tracks, you'll be suprised how much they have changed (Come Clarity if their latest; the album with those two songs on it).

Re: Addicted to Metal

How come no one mentioned Nightwish?! Oceanborn, Wishmaster and Once are all headbanging albums, but oh well....they are power metal though!

and btw Dethklok is the shit!!! I love Metalocalypse but seriously I would have to say my favorite song of all the series is the Duncan hills jingle. Just because of the fact that it begins with the question: DO YOU FOLKS LIKE COFFEE!!!! REAL COFFEE!!! *headbangs*

sorry, lost myself there, anyways, they rule and can't wait for their album to come out!

peace!
