Fuel Pressure Regulator on 95 SE - Hard to replace?

We need to replace the fuel pressure regulator on our 95 Grand Am SE 2.3 Quad 4. I know where the part is located (right on top) and was told that the fuel rail needed to be removed and then put back in order to accomplish this. I've gotten two quotes to do this in the shop, one for $300, one for $284. The one for $300 is charging $93.50 for labor, which means the part is costing over $200. Yet I was able to find the part at several locations both online and offline for around $60 - $80 brand new.

I'm strapped financially and would like to do this ourselves if at all possible. Have some background in repairing cars but haven't tackled this yet. I just want to know if it's too difficult for a novice.

Re: Fuel Pressure Regulator on 95 SE - Hard to replace?

Welcome to AF.

Its pretty straight forward, since the Quad doesnt have a valve to drain fuel pressure youll have to pull the fuse for the fuel pump, then run the engine untill it dies to releave the pressure.

You will have to remove the fuel rail partially because one of the mounting screws are behind where its hard to reach.
And it uses a torx bit(not sure on the size) to remove the regulator.
You'll also need a line wrench , you can do it with out this but watch your knuckles
