Re: 2001 Ford Taurus Emissions Help Needed!!

2001 Ford Taurus SES EGR help.

My check engine light came on. So we hooked it up to the computer and it said there was a problem with the EGR valve. So we removed it and blew it out. Then we hook it up to the computer again, and it still says there is a problem with EGR. We then replaced the EGR pressure sensor and I still notice the engine "dogging" while driving. Does anyone know what else I should be doing. It's driving me crazy.

This should have been a separate post. There are lots of posts about this type of this problem. The first thing I would suggest is to clean the MAF sensor. Also, if you checked the computer right after the repair the codes will still come up. Your car has to go though certain drive cycles before the codes will erase themselves. Also, there is a post on there from Huney1 that describes a good way to correct the "dogging". It involves disconnecting the battery to erase the computer. If I find it I will post it here or maybe he will see this post and will post it again.

Re: taurus EGR problem(moved by moderator)

Welcome to the forum!

Do you have the specific code or codes that were retrieved? They should be in the form of P0123. Knowing the specific code will help us zero in on your real problem.

When you're finished driving it disconnect the negative battery cable when the engine is hot and leave it sit all night until the engine is cold. Reconnect the negative cable and let it idle ten minutes or so then drive normally and make sure you get it up to 50 mph for a few minutes. The computer has to "re-learn" your driving habits and other things. Clean the MAFS like TaurusGuy said and give Rod the codes so he can tell you what the codes mean and hopefully the fix.
