Re: error p1537 98 windstar

That's your rear Intake Manifold Runner Controller. It's inside the Lower Intake Manifold.

The error code can be caused by either sludge built up inside the lower manifold, a faulty actuator (most likely) or a vacuum leak in the line goint to the controller.

It's a common problem and there's lots of topics here about it.

The bad news is that if your problem is the controller, they are about $200 a piece and you have to order the part. It's not something they sell at Autozone.

I forgot to mention...

As a temporary fix, you can rig the runner closed with wire or tie-wraps and the light will go off.

Re: error p1537 98 windstar

It takes a certain number of "drive cycles" without a failure for the light to go OFF.
The computer will keep the code stored and the light lit for while.....even after the problem is gone.....to enable a diagnosis.......
In short, wait a while for the light to have a chance to go out on its own.....or clear the code (if you don't have a code reader.....disconnect the negative battery cable, wait at least 15 minutes, reconnect).

The problem with clearing the code this way is that it will remove the "driveability" information....which takes a while to relearn.....so you don't want to do this within a few weeks of going for a emissions test (if your area requires one) as they will get a P1000 code indicating that the OBDII system has been cleared......and they will not pass you until the system completely re-learns the information.

Don't run out and buy a expensive part that you may not need.
