Adding an intercooler to my 2.2 turbo.

Hey everyone. This is my first post here. I recently aquired a 1988 LeBaron with the turbo 2.2. However, it was one of the ones that did NOT come with an intercooler from the factory. If I remember right, the non-intercooled versions only put out 145hp because the boost was only 7psi.

How difficult is it to add an intercooler to a non-intercooled engine? I'm looking for CHEAP. Meaning less than $50. Should I just go to a junk yard and get an intercooler setup off of a wrecked one? Or can I get some little intercooler off of ebay for $30 and hook it up myself with piping from NAPA or something?

I'm not looking for a street racer. I just want to intercool the turbo so that it stays healthy longer, I can up the boost a little bit, probably to about 10, and shoot for about 180 - 190hp. (The intercooled ones put out 175 @ 9psi stock IIRC.)

theres no reason i can think of that you cant just put an intercooler in, as the computer should be able to make up for the temperature differance. as for adding more boost, i dont know. but what i do know is that if you realy wanna do something with that 2.2, get the head off a 2.0, like out of a neon or a stratus. IIRC the head bolts right on and you'll have 16 valves instead of 8... i could see 180-190hp with 7psi intercooled. only thing that would suck about the 2.0 head is you will have to get a new turbofold, as the 2.2 has differant exhaust ports. the intake mani is differant too but all 95 and most 96 2.0's have alluminum intakes than do fine under pressure.

Sounds like something to look into.
Would someone be able to post (or email me) a picture of the 2.2 setup WITH an intercooler? I'm curious about where the intercooler sits in the engine bay and how it's mounted.
