2001 firebird security issues??

I had the car scanned at the dealership on Friday and the scan showed nothing, so I am hoping someone here can help. The car runs just fine, but there is something strange going on with it that I suspect is related to security. When I lock or unlock the doors using the remote or the key, the headlights briefly pop up and then back down and you can hear a motor noise on the left for about 5 seconds. It sounds like the headlight motor. If I unlock the trunk with the remote or the inside button, the same thing happens. If I unlock the trunk with the key, the horn sounds (like what happens when you push the panic button on the remote). Pushing the panic button stops it, but it starts again after a few seconds. this goes on the whole time the trunk is open and stops once the trunk closes. I am afraid my headlight motor will burn out if this keeps happening. any ideas on what could be wrong?? thanks.

Cindy

Re: 2001 firebird security issues??

Your problem is the gear inside the motor housing. The teeth on the gear are breaking, but in time your lights will not function. Once you replace the gear and seal it the problem will go away. You may purchase the gear from NAPA ($20) or you may purchase an aluminum or brass gear from an ebay dealer ($40-$60) with everything you need to complete the job. The cover must be sealed tight ,if not the cover will come off. Good luck!!

Did you get that alarm/remote locking system installed recently or did it come with the car?
