Transmission removal

Currently, I'm in the process of trying to replace my clutch assembly. I've removed the starter, linkages and unbolted everything. When I try to remove the transmission it keeps getting hung up on the pressure plate. Any ideas on how to prevent this from happening? Is there a special tool needed?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Transmission removal

Warpdrive,

I finally got the transmission out. It is not by the book but it worked. I finally broke down and called a guy that only works on nothing but imports. His response was what I figured all along, the throw out bearing is hanging up on the pressure plate and so what if it is damaged when we take it apart. A long story short, I used aluminum plate approximately 3/8" thick, used them as spacers all around the bell housing. I continued to stack up the plates or blocks until it finally broke free. Yes the throw out bearing and pressure plate were destroyed. How does it go? Out with the old and in with the new.

Yes you will contribute a little blood, sweat and tears. However, keep with it at the end of the day you'll be able to say, "Who's your daddy."
