Help w/5spd shifting noises??

I have a 99 Wrangler TJ, 5spd...when shifting and sometimes when not, I hear a rattling, click/clack type of noise, possibly loose??? Is this normal for a Jeep and if not, what could the problem be?

Re: Help w/5spd shifting noises??

Well, if you are running 48's with a supercharged 4.0L and are nearing 250k mi... There could be a problem!! Otherwise, my guess is that it's chattering from the clutch, which on its own is pretty normal. In my Wrangler the chatter is worst while I'm idling and it's completely out of gear. But if it's doing that while your giving it a little gas, this could be the sign of a problem with the clutch... If it does this while cruising at 45 mph it could be anything in the drive train, or just your tire choice (causing vibration that sounds like something more serious). I'd recommend that you take it to a dealership... But maybe that's just because I have the extended warranty and the Mechanic at the dealership near me is the biggest Jeep nut I've ever met!
