2000 GC dies and wont restart
I have a 2000 Jeep GC Limited that I bought used about nine months ago. It now has 95000 miles, as I havent been able to drive it most of the time I have owned it. It had problems with the tranny, but has since been corrected. the ABS light is on continually, and recently has began dying while driving. Sometimes it will start right back up, but twice now it has died and had to be towed to my house as it will not restart. Most recently we towed it home, and once it was off the tow truck and in a parking space, I tried to start it and it started right up no problems. When the car is not starting the battery guage shows 9 volts, and the other guages all not working as well. The radio and lights will all work though. No codes being thrown also. Any ideas? I thought maybe crankshaft position sensor? Any info is appreciated.

Re: 2000 GC dies and wont restart
CPS is possible.
How much gas is in the jeep when it stalls. Sounds like either 2 things, either the IGNITION COIL is overheating and quitting or the FUEL PUMP is overheating and quitting. Hence the reason why it stalls and takes so long to restrart - because it has to cool down. The FUEL PUMP will usually do this when below 1/2 tank, because the fuel pump is not fully submerged in fuel to keep it cool. If your gonna replace the IGNITION COIL be sure to replace the plugs, wires, cap and rotor button as well.

Re: 2000 GC dies and wont restart
I took the jeep out today, and it stalled 5 times before I could get it home. It stalls usually when coming to a stop. The guages all drop to O, and the gas guage says empty. when I turn the key to the on position, the guages only move a little bit, not where they should be. after dozens of tries to start the car, the guages will return to their normal spots when the key is turned. Only then will the car start, but it usually only runs for about a minute or two before dying again. Is this an electrical problem and how can I find out?

Re: 2000 GC dies and wont restart
I was experiencing similar symptoms to yours about the stalling, but not the dash.
The 01 would stall while driving and either quit altogether or start itself back up while still coasting. Most often just died tho and all guages of course went off. But it also would stall when braking to a stop. I would have to pull (coast) over and it would start right back up. My problem appears to have been the CPS was bad. Put in a new one in and haven't had a problem since and that was two tanks of gas ago. |

With the gauges doing what you described it definitely sounds like an electrical problem. Disconnect the battery terminals and clean the posts and connectors. Test the battery and alternator also.
