Engine Light ON in my 2000 Voyager

I tried to follow the instruction to get the DTC codes : Press trip and reset buttons and put key to Start and see the codes, It ws showing "23" and "55" in cyclical Order.

Other problem, not sure if these are related, is my van is not picking up speed and the engine is rotating on high RPM when I hit on gas. I had to drive on 3rd gear at the speed of 40 mph to reach home.

Does any body what are the probelms here and what should I do next ??

Re: Engine Light ON in my 2000 Voyager

Read this site it explains code 23 http://dodgeram.org/tech/gas/Trouble/Fault-23.htm
Code 55 means end of codes

Sounds like the transmission is in limp mode.
Check fluid level of transmission
When was transmission serviced
What engine
Mileage of vehicle

Re: Engine Light ON in my 2000 Voyager

Hi tempfixit,

Thanks for replying.. I know nothing about vehicles... so any help would be great.
The description of code 23 and problem with not picking up speed seems to be unonnected. Again.. I may be totally wrong.

Mileage on my van is 132K... but it was not driven much in last 1.5 years. It was not driven for last 3 months. Its battery was dead, I got a jump start and then straight away went to WalMart to get the battery replaced.

and tne next day I faced the probelm of Engine Light ON and getting sudden hiccups while driving when speed goes above 45-50 m. AT that the rpm goes beyond 3.

The vechicle was not serviced in last two years. I had a Oil chang more than 8-9 months ago.. but it was not driven that much after that.

Please suggest what should I do so that it costs less to fix it..
Which service agent, do you suggest, I should take the van to.

Re: Engine Light ON in my 2000 Voyager

First I would check all fluid levels. Add some fresh gas if you have not to this point or a additive to eliminate any moisture accumulated in tank. Go to a autoparts store like Autozone or Checkers and have them read and clear the existing codes. They will do this free of charge. Post any codes they find.

If you get the limp mode in the transmission again pull to side of road and turn off engine, wait a couple of minutes and start driving again too see if it goes to limp mode again. )Limp Mode is transmission staying in 2nd gear so you can get to a safe place to investigate problem) Have the transmission filter and fluid changed, USING ATF + 4 FLUID ONLY, DO NOT LET THEM USE DEXRON as this hurts Mopar Transmission. I do not recommend any fast lube places to do this becuase they install Dexron with a additive.

When the battery was changed it caused the PCM and the TCM to relearn the driving patterns.

Hope this helps. Hope fullly someone with more knowledge will chime also.
Keep us posted.

Re: Engine Light ON in my 2000 Voyager

Thanks.
What all fluids I should get changed:
Engine Oil
Tranny Fluid
Coolant??

Is there anything else.

And what is the general cost of each of these??

I will take my van to CarSpa on 11th Aug.

Re: Engine Light ON in my 2000 Voyager

I would get the trans filter and fluid changed (Use ATF +3 or +4 fluid only)

Have you had the codes checked with a OBD II Scanner? Many Auto Parts Stores will do this for free.

Also try disconnecting battery again for about 15 minutes, this will clear the codes. Drive and see if engine litght comes back on and how transmission operates.

Re: Engine Light ON in my 2000 Voyager

Today I took the van to CarSpa, they said oil is good and does not neet a change. The connected the computer to the van and the error coe was 0700.
I then took it to the Pepboys.. they said if there is a problem with onboard computer then they will not be able to fix it, so they asked me to go to the Dodge dealer. Dealer was closed on Sunday.

:-(

Re: Engine Light ON in my 2000 Voyager

Ditto to tempfix but here's a little more info. P0700 means there is a problem with the transmission control system. This system is comprised of a computer (transmission control module), sensors, and valves. From what I can read on it, P0700 is a general code with several possible causes. In this guys case it turned out to be a sensor: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...=caravan+P0700

More on sensors. Don't know if an 00 has both an input and output sensor but, if you're speedometer has been acting up as well, the output speed sensor or it's connection or wiring are bad. If the speedo is fine I would lean towards the input sensor.

Re: Engine Light ON in my 2000 Voyager

I finally took it to the Dodge dealer. They said it needs a new Speed Sensor and a Tranny servicing. Costed me $450. Its doing fine now.

Thanks to all folks who took time in replying to my problem. Keep helping.

Glad to hear your headache is over and thanks for posting the fix. $450 seems a bit stiff but, you can't expect much better from a dealership.
