Hey does anyone out there know if the Head gasket problem on the V6 could cause a thrown rod?? I had plenty of oil(just changed it), small oil leak and didnt think anything about it. Only 178k on the engine so its just broken in......Help me please!!!!

Did you have a previous problem with the head gasket? You say you had an apppointment to get it taken care of. If not, then yes, the head gasket could definitely have caused the problem, considering that you observed burning antifreeze just before the engine let go. Sounds like your head gasket gave way and your engine couldn't run at highway speeds with what antifreeze was in the engine oil. There should be antifreeze all in your exhaust system to prove your contention that the engine was burning antifreeze before it died. This is proof that the head gasket was the problem that caused your engine to give out.

so what should i tell the service manager at the toyota dealership? Covered under warranty? Will they just replace whats broken or the whole engine? What are some key words to throw out there to make sure its a warranty? any ideas?

ok so i looked at the engine today through the right wheel well.....big hole just in front of the starter. So im taking that it is not a thrown rod? could this still have been caused by the head gasket? reguardless, its going in tomorrow to get looked at.
