Question 2005 Replacement Tires

I currently have 17xxx miles on the original Goodyear Integrity tires. To be safe I have another 1-2k max. left before it's replacement time. I want a tire with longer tread wear and a smoother ride. Are there any suggestions out there from 05 Prius owners?

Re: 2005 Replacement Tires

Be careful and do some research on replacement tires. I have read in here and in Priuschat that people that switch tires to a different type compromise the perfromance of the Prius. Usually accociated with getting new rims. Weight is the primary reason.

Me personally, we have an 03 and I just replaced them with another set of Integrity tires to be safe.

Good luck.

Smile Re: 2005 Replacement Tires

I joined Costco just so I could buy the Michelin X-Radials that Consumer Reports rated very highly (maybe Sam's club carries the same model). They're warranted for 80,000 mi, but I only got 35k so Costco/Michelin paid over half the price for a set of 4 new ones. The original Integrities only delivered 21k, and I'm very careful about monitoring pressures. The tech said that the 185 width is pretty narrow for that heavy a car, and they've seen a lot of early wear-outs. An option is to get a 195 width with a lower profile so the circumference is about the same and speedo/odo won't be affected (Costco's computer will tell the tech what's OK). As near as I could tell, my MPG was not adversely affected (I recently got 53.9 on a 500-mi trip into WV.
