Question 94 del Sol clutch, master cylinder, slave cylinder, battery problems

this is sort of a two part question, any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated:

my car will not shift into gear when its on, it only shifts when its off. there was no sign of it happening, basically one day i got in, started it, and it was reluctant to shift into gear, especially reverse. i went to check it 2 days later, and the battery died (didnt leave lights, radio, or anything on). now the car only starts with a jump, it wont hold a charge (i let it run for a while and once the car is off again it wont start again without a jump). now after i jump it, it wont shift into gear at all.
im assuming these two problems are coincidental and that one isnt caused by the other.

first: starting the car- does this sound like a battery, starter, or alternator problem?

second: shifting gears: i've asked around and i cant figure out if its a clutch problem or a master/slave cylinder issue or all of the above?

i just bought this car recently so as you can tell its a little new to me. again, any help you can give me is greatly appreciated.

Alternator problem most likely. Take it off and take it to Autozone or the like and they'll test it for free, just to be sure.

As for the shifting problem, sounds like your clutch might not be disengaging. Does the pedal feel any different?

i would say over the few weeks i drove it, it went from engaging higher up, and then started to engage closer to the floor. it wasnt a huge difference, it more or less felt like i was just breaking it back in.

i'm a little confused about the not disengaging thing. if that was the case, wouldnt it still shift into gear, but basicaly stay in nuetral instead of driving in that gear?

Hey there, I just got a del sol a week ago, and i had a 89 celica in the past and it did the same thing with not being able to go into gears one day, and the engaging went from being far out to a lil off the floor till it got really bad and wouldnt disengage at all. But anyways, it was the slave cylander and im almost positive that that is what it is in your del sol too.
