clunking and squeeking noises

I have two things that sound like a problem. Im not sure if they are related, but i dont think that they are.

The first is just a high pitched squeeking noise whenever i go over any kind of bumps. It seems like it is just a suspension problem... I only mention it on the off chance that it might suggest something along with the second noise.

The second thing is a rather loud bump (very audible and it can kind of be felt from inside the car... but not really) That usualy happens while I am turning and going from a decline to flat road (ex. turning out of a driveway)
My roommate says that it sounds alot like what he heard when he had to replace his cv joints... Does this sound correct?

thanks

Re: clunking and squeeking noises

i have the very same problem w/ the clunking.......it happend a lot when i was turning (a full 90degree turn) and then we replaced the outer tie rod ends(?) and it stopped while turning but still clunks like you said when backing out of the driveway for example (up/down and incline to level ground)......let me know if you figure it out

I'll assume by your profile and signature, it's a 99 GTP. The first two things I'd look for is a broken /cracked sway bar, and teh front lower control arm bushings. These are two common clunk/squeak/rattle causes on your car.

Re: clunking and squeeking noises

Check to see if the squeaking noise goes away when you apply the brakes. sometimes those thin metal clips at the end of each pad can make noise. For clunking or other noises, i like to kick the tires hard or hit them with a mallet to try to recreate the noise.

Re: clunking and squeeking noises

Actually, not sure why you got the Engine Pics up, but anways if your hearing a squeak or Chirp then it could be your serpentine Belt(Crank, waterpump, idler pulley, altenator, compressor) that belt. Cause we gotta a Chevy Malibu down our Auto Body Shop, and it make a chirping noise and thats what the problem was. And another common expierence we have of noise from the Suspension area is a worn out Strut and Spring assembly. Brake pads run very close to the rotor, so it could always be your pads rubbing against your disc of the caliper isnt disangaging all the way. Just throwing stuff out there...

good luck
