Oil filter question
I usually pay someone to do my oil changes, but I'm going to start doing my own. I have a 99 GST.
Someone I work with also has a second gen Eclipse and he said the OEM Mitsubishi filters have a check valve in it to prevent oil draining out of the engine, or something to that extent. Any truth to that? If so, then would aftermarket filters have the same check valve? I went to a dealer for an OEM filter and I ended up getting a MZ690072. Would that be the right one for my car? I believe so, but since I'm already asking about OEM vs aftermarket I might as well double check. I believe there are 2 different filters for the Eclipse. Also, I was given a small copper colored ring about as big as the threads from the dealer, which the aftermarket filter did not come with. Is it a gasket?

Not really to sure but I think I remember reading something about the stock oil filter having a valve but it was to close off the filter when at WOT. To make sure the motor had enough oil.

for dsm, Im either run mitsubishi oil filter or pure one, nothing else. btw if you want get redline heavy weight shock proof gear oil ( mix 1 quart of redline and the rest is pennzoil, is utimate protection for that weak tranny
 ). I have 2 quart of you buy those I will throw in that mitsubishi turbo oil filter for free, need pix let me know.

well i work at honda in survice and we have to put those ring thingies you were talking about on the drain plug so the oil pan won't get stuck to the plug.you dont have to use it but it will help you not to strip the threads.and no it doesnt go on the filter as a gasket
