Underdrive pulleys
I installed an underdrive pulley for my 99 3.0L Ranger with no problem.
Now I want to replace the alternator pulley.... How can you get it off? The nut is obviously on there pretty good and before I start manhandling it, I'd like to know if anyone else found a good way to get it off. |

Re: Underdrive pulleys
Remove the alternator and remove the pulley using a bearing puller. Reverse procedure to install.

Re: Underdrive pulleys
Apply a good penetrating lube around the thread. See if the nut will come out. Try using an impact wrench.

That will be the plan. It looks like a reverse thread, do you know if it is? |

Re: Underdrive pulleys
It should not be a reverse thread. Would be alot easier if you use an impact wrench as using a breaker bar and socket will make it a real pita to hold still while loosening. If you dont have an impact take it to a garage they should be kind enough to pop it loose for you, will only take them a second or 2.

Re: Underdrive pulleys
Been nearly a year since the original post.
Any updates? pros/cons? I have a 2002 Ranger w/3.0 that I'm considering putting an underdrive pulley on to increase MPG. What's your opinion? Last edited by timd; 04-23-2008 at 02:53 PM. |
