fog lights not working

my fog lights never worked in my car since i got it a few months back. I pulled the bulbs and one was broken and the other was burnt out. I went and got replacment bulbs from the dealer. They fit well and plug in fine but they dont work. As far as i can tell theres no fuse for them just a relay (wich does not click when i turn them on) bad relay or is there a fuse hiding somewhere?

Re: fog lights not working

Make sure the foglight switch is on, and the headlamps are on low-beam. One other note: both my fog lamp housing developed cracks in the top allowing water to get in. I replaced one, but not the other. They're like $125 each! So, if they are letting water in you'll soon blow the new bulbs.

Re: fog lights not working

well after a flip through the manual, found the fuse and the relay. Fuse is ok (shared with park lights) and relay must be OK because i swapped it with the horn relay and the horn still works. what a pain in the arse....Wiring or something is gone bad. Any ideas?

Re: fog lights not working

Mine is a 2002 GL, but the relay is still in socket #17 like yours. I pulled the relay out and with the help of my manual and a test light figured out how the circuit works. Going by the terminal numbers stamped on the bottom of the relay: #87 and #86 are hot at all times. #85 is the controlling ground for the coil part of the relay. #30 goes to the foglights. So, I could make the foglights come on by bridging #87 and #30 in the foglight relay socket. #85 in the socket should be grounded when the foglight switch is on. If you put a testlamp between #86 and #85 it should light up when the key is on and the foglight switch is on.

Re: fog lights not working

wow, thanks for that. I was heading out with a multimeter...I started the car to move it, fogs didnt work. 10 minutes later the fogs just poped on with the headlights on. Then a lightbulb went off in my head "its that damn photosensor on the dash" now that its night time the fogs work! They work with the headlights at night time, and for them to work in the day time (by shining a flashlight at the sensor) the car MUST be running (not just headlights turned on) This seems like a mixed circuit to me because I have never heard of the fog lights being wired to a light sensor....Usually just tail lights. I was trying to diagnose the problem in the day without the engine running! BAH...anybody else have fogs that work the same way?
