Question Anyone started their Revell Audi R10 yet ?

This kit seems to have dropped into a modelling black hole. Now it's out in Europe, there is absolute silence about it from the European builders and the eager Americans (as I believe it is due out in the US in September ?!).

I'm just about to begin mine and was wondering if anyone has already started their builds. Some immediate needs have been found (modifying and plumbing the cooling radiators to the engine for a start) and I was hoping for some luminaries to offer other tips.

Any one ?

Just started mine. Working on the interior . Will post pics soon. Lots of plumbing to do but the basics are there. I now have a mill and lathe so I guess I'll learn a lot on this build. Need to fabricate particulate filters also. Going to learn resin casting for those. Good luck with your build.

That looks pretty good to me. The only thing I would have done differently would probably be the shade of silver and I would have painted the gray areas as I think it is supposed to be a darker gunmetal type color. I have two on order and I hope someone does this years LeMans winner. I also have the SMS kit which is simply fantastic, but the Revell kit will look good too with some attention. I don't think LMM will do the 2007 winner since Revell has this kit out.

Re: Anyone started their Revell Audi R10 yet ?

Lathafummi, that's a nice finish you've got. Which Halfords paint did you use ? I did some testing on Tamiya's Silver Leaf and Mica Silver, which were too dark, so I've decided to go with Revell's silver (90) as it's a very close match and automotive paint flecks looked too big.

Scalecentral, I'm going to try and do the 2006 ALMS champion as most of the decals were the same as on the Le Mans winner. With some home brewing, the ALMS specific decals shouldn't be a problem. The same should be the same for the 2007 Le Mans winner. You may want to check again and save yourself some work as the dark grey decals do look fairly accurate.

AudiS6, how much plumbing are you doing ? I've got some good pictures of the engine and the number of wires I can see.... well, I'll leave them to a more skilled builder

It Audi siver, just by luck I had it lying around. And its one of those wierd resizing affects the flecks dont look that bad in real light.

One thing that shows is as I have always said... even the real things aren't always perfect. Look at the seams and the edge on the red upright. Why should one strive so hard to be perfect, lol. Btw, I see what you are saying about the gray. I will have to wait and see when mine get here.

And this was the show car !!! But I agree about perfection. I have a great pic of the upper front suspension of Jensen Button's BAR F1 car. While everyone tries to get their CF decals in one piece, this pic shows the strut in 3 definite pieces.

I've found the IMSA and ALMS decal images for the ALMS winner so all I have to do now is create the number panels and the class number decal. Can anyone recognise the font for the numbers ?

And gionc, hope you like these (with thanks to SpeedArena and Google )

Re: Anyone started their Revell Audi R10 yet ?

Mark,

Revell Germany released the kit in Europe in July and Revell USA is releasing the kit in September. I believe all the respondents in this thread so far are in Europe (I'm in the UK) so unless you wish to import one from over the pond or are prepared to pay some big bucks for a resin kit, I'm afraid patience is your only other option

You shouldn't pull down your work. What you have done so far looks really good. You have achieved a very nice even finish with the silver which can be a real pain sometimes. The decals also look very neat.
