EVAP module reset

On a 2000 Dodge Stratus, there was a EVAP leak (0422 error code) that (hopefully) was repaired, but the EVAP module hasn't reset yet, so it is unknown if the repair was 100% or not. The MIL is not lit because of this. All other modules have reset. The car has been driven a few days, but still nothing.

Any idea how long it takes for this to reset, or is there a way to force a reset other than a visit to the dealer?

Re: EVAP module reset

I think it resets when the issue goes away. Evap systems have many components that can effect one sensor. Keep looking. One person in this forum mentioned the fuel filler tube by the gas inlet was rusted.

In the meantime, try disconnecting the battery for 10 min.

Re: EVAP module reset

hey videobruce, I have 2004 stratus sedan 2.4L DOHC
i've seen your post many times in different places, well, because i'm trying to solve the same problem.
I got P0441, incorrect purge flow. Drove with that for some time, tried to tighted the cap, somehow the light shut down, but ignition key test shows error P0441 still there.
wtf? is PCM malfunctioning? have you figured out why evap monitor did finally reset?\thanks!

Re: EVAP module reset

The orginal repair apparently wasn't needed. What was wrong was the filler neck that rusted out due to a tar like tape that was wrapped around the top of the neck, right under the 'flange'. No surprise, moisture got in there and rotted out the pipe. The rest of the pipe that was exposed had no rust what so ever.

Apparently, if there is still a problem after you clear the trouble code(s), it will take longer to get the monitor to confirm there is a problem. IOWs', if the problem is actually fixed, the monitor will reset quicker.

I assume with this EVAP system, it is that complicated and probably that fussy (more critical), it just takes the longest to reset.
