keyless entry problem

Just bought a 03 Silverado with 83K, got 2 factory key fobs with truck that didnt work, replaced batteries, after several attempts of holding down both lock/unlock buttons on fob was able to get truck to resycronize and work. I couldnt get the other one to do it. About 4 days later it quit working, went thru same trouble resycronizing and again got the same remote to work. Also noticed DRL doesnt work on this truck, which is no big deal for me. Any suggestions on what to replace? Is there a keyless module that is going out and if so , where is it...

Re: keyless entry problem

As far as the fob's, I'd check in with the dealership to get that corrected.

With the DRL's, remember you have to be in gear for them to come on, on these style trucks. I believe this is the case with the '03's.

Re: keyless entry problem

I had this issue with my truck as well turns out I had to get my BCM updated with new software..theres a TSB out for it I believe..Also in the book there is two different ways to program these FOBs, the resync method is usually done when you a replace a battery or etc..it also says that if the fob is out of sync the panic should still work but unlock/lock will not. Im not sure if you tried the more envolved method with is considered repograming the trasmitter, I'll paste it below just in case you hadn't tried it..If you have tried I would probably check with the dealer and see what the problem might be.

TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING

IMPORTANT: Do not operate or program the transmitters in the vicinity of other vehicles that are in the keyless entry program mode. This prevents the programming of the transmitters to the incorrect vehicle.

1. Close all vehicle doors.
2. Insert the key into the ignition.
3. Hold down the power UNLOCK button on the driver’s door panel-continue to hold down until instructed
to release in step 9.
4. Perform steps 5 through 8 in fairly rapid succession.
5. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (as far as you can go without starting the engine).
6. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
7. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
8. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
9. Release the power unlock button on the door panel. The vehicle will lock and unlock the doors automatically.
10. Hold down the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter simultaneously until the door locks and unlocks.
This step may take up to 30 seconds.
11. Repeat step 10 NOW for each additional transmitter (including any existing transmitters).
12. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position in order to exit the transmitter programming mode.
