Will a 00-03 instument cluster work in a 99?

I have a 2.2 w/o a tach,if I get a 00-03 cluster will it fit?Has anyone done this before?
If I get one with a tach will it work as well?

Fit yes, function properly, yes. mileage is going to be all fucked up. 95-99 mileage is stored in the gauge clusters, while 00+ is in the in the cars computer. This is where mileage fraud becomes an issue/ concern. I didn't have a tach either so this is what i did....

Auto meter P/N - 1397
Auto meter tach adapter is needed as well.
