Removing the factory radio

i have the 1995 taurus GL and im trying to take out the factory radio but i cant figure out how without breaking it. anybody have some ideas?

You need the radio removal tool to get the faceplate off. Go to an auto parts store--they're about $5.

I used 12 gauge solid copper wire, some leftovers from a wire job,, just make sure you sort of push both pieces outward to disengage the clips on the brackets at the same tikme you're pulling them outward, it'll come right out..

Many stores that sell automotive radios also sell wiring harness kits. These allow you to wire in an aftermarket head unit to the harness kit, then plug the harness kit into the factory wiring. This saves you from cutting in to the factory wiring. The harness kits usually sell for around $20 and you can probably find one for your car even at Wal-Mart.

If you have the premium or JBL system, you may also need an amplifier bypass cable to bypass the factory amplifier.
