PCV Problem on a 1997 Jimmy

Hello I am having a wierd problem with my PCV valve. Last week I replaced my Air and Fuel Filters along with the PCV Valve. Now, I am noticing that my PCV valve doesnt make the same noise that it used to. Before, when the engine was on, I could hear a slow rattle. Now, when I start the truck all I can hear is a hissing noise around there. If I move around the hose that connects to the valve, it will rattle really fast or make a buzzing noise. It doesnt sound the same as it used to. I was also trying to figure out how to take off that big cover on top of the engine. It is right on top of the throttle body and there is a rubber wing nut on the back left corner of it. I tried twisting it off but nothing happens. Any help or suggestions? Thanks.

Make sure that PCV valve is seated in real good. I know on my 98 I have to push down and I will feel it slip into place.

to get the plastic cover (Throttle Body "Hat") off, loosen and remove the air intake hose from the hat, remove the wingnut, then grab the hat from the back and pull up and foward and it should lift right off. check to make sure the pcv is sitting flush in the valve cover and that the hose is not leaking.

Re: PCV Problem on a 1997 Jimmy

i made sure that the valve was seated good. i pushed down as hard as i could and it wouldnt go down any further. i checked the hose and its not leaking. but i checked and it seems like the hose isnt seating well on the valve. so i got a new one and its the same way. idk maybe they gave me a shitty valve or the wrong valve. im going to get another one today. and about that "hat" i tried removing that wing nut and its not doing anything. it just twists and doesnt get any looser. is there a screw inside the opening or something? please help. thanks again.

Try to reseat everything and maybe even buy a new pcv valve since they are a $2 part and give that a shot. Wouldn't be unheard of that you got a bad one out of the box

Re: PCV Problem on a 1997 Jimmy

yeah that was my plan. i am going to get a new one today. but why would the valve sound different than before. to me it sounds like there is more vacuum being pulled with this new valve. but with my original valve all i could hear was a little rattle. so does anyone know why i cannot take that throttle body hat off. when i turn the wing nut it just turns and turns.

Re: PCV Problem on a 1997 Jimmy

okay i fixed my problem. i took out the valve and all the hoses attached to it. i went to the store and got new rubber elbows and hoses and put it all back together and it works great now. i think when i took the old valve off i mustve ripped one of the hoses and that where my hissing came from. and i figured out how to take off that throttle body cover too. so thanks for the help guys.
