sticking at ful throttle?

OK, wel;l I have a 96 Windstar with a 3.8L, and when I board it to pass someone, or to merge, sometimes the throttle stick on full. The throttle body has been cleaned, and when you work the throttle by hand all is free, with no catches at all. Any ideas at all??

I also have a 96 and maybe 5 years ago it happend to my wife and she didnt know what to do. I said just turn off the key if it ever happens again. It ended up being a engine mount on heavy acceleration it would lift the engine a little and the accelerator would get stuck. I cant say for sure that that is your problem but check it out. Im not sure which one it was. If I remember right I could have someone put there foot on the brake and accelerate and I could see it lift. Hope it helps. Just dont stand in front of it and make sure someone is ready to turn off the key.

Re: sticking at ful throttle?

I know it sounds stupid.....but I have had my accelerator catch on the floor mat and stick......

The '96 3.8L windstar has 2 accelerator return springs...and if you loose 1, the other has enough strength to return it to the idle position.
1 spring is external....a extension spring that connects to the bracket by the trottle body.
The other spring is mounted on the accelerator pivot shaft.

You could try, with the engine OFF, moving the accelerator over it's range of movement...and see if there is any "binding" point.

Re: sticking at ful throttle?

Wiswind. Ya, bolth springs are there. I know becouse I forgot to put the external one back on after my intake job

I also checked for the mats in the way. I work at a dealer, and have heard of many complantes of no power etc that was steming from those thick floor mats. Also, no binding at all from the peddle, or the linkedge with the motor off.

Just kinda stumpped....

I will check the mounts though, thanks!
