Hi everyone! You all helped me last time...so I have another question for you!
I am going to need new tires in about 5K miles (according to Big O) and before I just go in there and let them put something on, with THEIR recommendation, I would like to know if Tahoe's ride better or smoother or have better traction with a 'particular' tire? I don't do any towing and I dont go off-road, its just "Mom's Taxi". But I really want traction for the rain, I am in Seattle, ya know. Thanks so much!! Sherrie

2WD or 4WD? Also take a look at www.tirerack.com
I went with http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....nSpeedRating=R since it does see snow in the winter time. //2000CAYukon |

Re: 2002 Tahoe ~ need opinions on TIRES
Michelin Radial LTX M/S!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm on my seond set and I got 46000 miles out of the first set. Probably not the most aggressive off road tire, but they do well in the snow. They are a little more expensive than most, but they seem to be worth it. Good luck.

Firestone destination LE. Great traction in the rain and good all season tread.

Re: 2002 Tahoe ~ need opinions on TIRES
Well, first off, most tire places are going to try selling you whatever they can make the most profit on. Not all of course, but they need to make money too you know!
I like to do a lot of research myself first, by doing just what you did Sherrie... Asking other owners, posting questions, and searching websites. A lot of times I'll find a deal on tires online and give the tire dealers a chance to match that price also.www.tirerack.com does have an excellent tool for reseaching tires for your vehicles, and has a multitude of brands they carry. They have very detailed specs and pictures of the tires, and also they have a rating system that considers all the conditions (treadwear, traction in all conditions, ride quality, noise, etc) You can look over the reviews that consumers wrote about each tire and do a comparison between all the tires you are interrested in... I recently bought a set of General Grabber AT2's from them for my 98 Tahoe and I am very impressed with their smooth, quite ride for a more aggressive tread. They are excellent in the rain, and were actually pretty reasonable compared to the Michelins ond other tires I have been buying. I think they were about $108 ea. including shipping for a 265-70R16. You do obviously have to find someone to mount/bablance them, but I like to give our local garage owners some business by doing stuff like that for me... I went with them on recommendation from another fellow I know who puts them on all of his Mercedes SUVs and is very happy with them. He said he usally gets about 60-70K miles out of them before he thinks about replacing them.

Re: 2002 Tahoe ~ need opinions on TIRES
Ditto on Goodyear Wrangler A/T's sucking. They came on my truck, and while they have lasted 45,000 mostly highway miles, if it rains the traction has always sucked. I like michelin's and will probably go with them, though not sure which, when I get new ones.

Re: 2002 Tahoe ~ need opinions on TIRES
I got the Firestone Destination LE's on my 2WD Tahoe and they are a great tire for the buck so far. Paid $532 for a set of 4 without the warranty. I have about 23K on them and can probably squeeze another 20K out of them. Great look and a nice ride with good traction in the rain.
