E motor timing anomoly

Recently got another Camaro, 91 RS. I've been going through all of the maintenance and tune up steps after curing the overheating - BTW, mine had about twenty pounds of leaves, dirt, SAND, and grass wedged between the A/C fins & radiator - no idea on how that much got in there. Anyways, I got around to inspecting ignition timing, and what should be simple is vague at best. The underhood gives 0 deg btdc at idle. No idle figure is mentioned there or in the manual. It does say idle is computer controlled. While jumping the ALDL A-B, w/ wire disconnected at dist, is just off scale advanced. If I set it at 0, it's definitely wrong. Anyone have a clue on how to make the procedure work as expected?

Re: E motor timing anomoly

It should still say idle speed, even tho is controlled,. Off the top of my head I want to say 550 at operating temp. You don't have to jump the ALDL, just sidconnect the single TAN wire on the passenger side firewall and go from there.

Re: E motor timing anomoly

You would think the idle speed would be listed, but it's not. I could get a pic of the decals, but AF pic posting didn't work last I checked. The tach reads just shy of 1000. Got the other issue regarding the advance, but the idle speed is still a mystery. I'll check the tach with my Sunn, cause I hear the dash model isn't accurate. Thanks all!

Re: E motor timing anomoly

In dash one is junk. I usually end up doing the final setting by ear personally.
