Ford F-250 Super Duty info please
I want to but a 2003 ford f-250 super duty 4x4 off road crew cab to haul my 28 foot travel tailer with. It would only be driven to tow this and in between times just to keep the engine tuned. But it has 191000 mile. It was a work truck with high way miles and seem be in in great shape. What can I expect. I am going to check on it now. It has every thing. I did see a tran temp when I looked through the window.
be back later guys for you input. Oh they only want 8500 for it. deal or no deal? |

Re: Ford F-250 Super Duty info please
That sounds like a helluva deal on that truck unless its a rag. Look for signs of abuse, drive it and see how it shifts, check the 4wd, brakes, make sure its not running hot, look for leaks...ect. 191000 is alot for an 03, but if its been well maintained its got alot of miles left in it. What theyre asking appears to be about half of average retail, but that will depend on engine, pkgs, accessories..ect. Have a look here for an idea of what its worth.

Re: Ford F-250 Super Duty info please
Well it is a sharp clean truck. A tool company drove it on the interstae 40 from fort smith ark to mc clester okla. They did do maintance but how often I do not know
last time was 1000 miles ago. Truck is very tight and not beat up in the least. It has the FX4 on it. Runs great .........no rattles. i would have to give it an 8 out of 10. I was able to get 4250 out of my ford and so i only owe 4250 on this one. I just want to know wht to expect when one gets this kind of miles on it. We will not use it every day but will use it to pull our RV. Oh what kind of gas mileage can you expect with /without towing. |

Re: Ford F-250 Super Duty info please
Well, the fuel mileage will depend alot on which engine, trans, and gear ratio it has. Give us a few more details, and someone can probably tell you what to expect. As far as what to expect maintenance/trouble wise, thats hard to say. But if they kept the truck serviced, which it sounds like they did, odds are pretty good that you`ll get alot more trouble free miles out of it. Ive seen some of these trucks go 3-400k without any problems, then again some always have something wrong with them, but thats with any brand. LOL Being an 03 with mostly highway miles on it, its probably still in good condition. See if you can get a more detailed service record from them, and if they havent done it, change all the fluids/filters in the differentials/trans/transfer case. If it has limited slip, dont forget the additive.

Re: Ford F-250 Super Duty info please
I know the engine is the 5.4L its a 4x4 with the off road package. About the trans I wouldn't know, or ratio. Wish you guys could see this truck.......you would be proud of me. It runs smooth with no noise. I'll larn more tomorrow. I will call the place that own it. She's sweet.
It the super duty super cab if that tell you anything about the trans. Long bed too. You guys have been great |

Re: Ford F-250 Super Duty info please
it will need a trans soon and when ever the battery goes dead you will have to take it to a dealer to relearn the apply solenoid and plenty of ECU updates.

Re: Ford F-250 Super Duty info please
Unless you have bought the truck already I wouldn't buy it. I'm a FORD guy but if your going to pull a RV you got to get a diesel. You will get 5MPG with a gasoline V8(pending size of RV) Thats one reason the price is so low. I have lots of experience with large towing and years with diesel and gasoline engines. I would be a great truck for other things like offroading but large towing jobs you will fill it in pocket book.

Re: Ford F-250 Super Duty info please
So you are saying not to get it because of the MPG. Not the high mileage. I did talked to the person who had the tuck. States it was serviced every 3500 miles. U-joints were replaced. Nothing major with the truck, Did bumper pull to different job sites. 6000 +/- pounds. Yes we want to pull out RV with it but as stated we will not drive it every day. So they gas mileage will kill us? We know the diesel is the best route to go but just a little out of our range.

Re: Ford F-250 Super Duty info please
I would be more concerned about the lack of power with the 5.4 than i would be the fuel mileage. The diesel would be better of course, probably in both respects, but i would not have let that deter me from buying this truck at that price. Hook it up to the camper and take it on a short trip, or around the block and see how it does. It may surprise both of us, but the 5.4 isnt real gutsy and none of em ive drove had near as much torque as a 5.8/351. Just keep it locked out of od and it may do ok. If it doesnt suit you or you cant live with the fuel mileage, you can always turn it and make a little money, keep trading up till you get one that does.

Re: Ford F-250 Super Duty info please
Course we are use to the F150 V6 that when we got in this truck it had much more power then what we were use to. I have concerns of course. But I guess it is just a chance i'll have to take. Now I am trying to figure out the tow rate. That could change my mine. Truck is rated 8800. My trailer is 7580 GVWR on both. They say the towable rate on this tuck is 13500. Now is it worth it?

Re: Ford F-250 Super Duty info please
I have to disagree with the 5.4L having no guts. My 05 FX4 pulls my car hauler with no problem. I do perfer to use my F350 powerstroke more for pulling but I have never been disapointed by the 5.4L. If your not worried about fuel milage then buy it, but I rather spend more on the truck then giving it all to the gas company. It might be a good idea if the seller will let you try it out with the travel trailer, but good luck with that one. But for the price your paying for that truck I could get a 98 to 00 powerstroke with around 220K where I live. It also depends on how far you plan on going. A few hrs away then maybe it would be a good truck, but more then 300 miles one-way I wouldn't go with gas. You really not going to get the answer your looking for. You could get hundreds of opinions. Good luck.
