Loud Noises : VW Type II Pickup
Hello Forum Members:
I am still trying to find out what is causing the loud noises on my '58 VW pickup. I have a funny feeling that my problem might be swing axle issue or a bad wheel bearing. When I am going under, say 40mph, I hear a DIT-DIT-DIT sound. But the sound does not appear to coming from engine compartment. Does anyone know how to troubleshoot swing axle and check for loose bolts, etc.? Do I need to take the rubber boots off both sides (near tranny and near wheel)? Please help. Thanks, |

Re: Loud Noises : VW Type II Pickup
I would wonder if dit-dit-dit noises could be something from the brakes that was loose inside the drum, and bouncing around.
If its a stock swing axle, taking the rubber boots loose wont tell you much. There were lug bolts made for other cars that were the same as those on the VW, except a little longer. If you used one of those on a VW the end of the lug bolt would protrude into the drum, and would be hitting something. |

Re: Loud Noises : VW Type II Pickup
i think axles may be best left to mechanics with proper tools. its pretty hard to do it yourself, might result to further
eurovan parts problems. |
