New spark/wires, now no speed?

Hi guys,

Well, like the title reads, i installed new sparkplugs and wires into my 89' Civic Hatch. I took it for a quick spin and my check engine went on and i noticed the speedometer read 0. When i first start out, the needle seems to work fine (but stutters), but when i shift to another gear it drops to 0.

Any help you guys could give me would be awesome. Im serously at a loss.

Re: New spark/wires, now no speed?

your problem has nothing to do with the new wires and plugs. My speedo kinda shutters a bit like yours but doesn't ever stop working. If you look on the back of the transmission you will see where the speedo cable goes into the trans, check to make sure the cable is pushed in all the way. Other than that the problem is a guessing game. Could be the gauge has started to skip after years of use, could be the cable isn't engaging fully into the dash gauge, or possibly the housing on the transmission

Re: New spark/wires, now no speed?

The only reason i associated the problem with the new sparks/wires is because it happened immediatley after we installed them.

The guy that helped me install the plugs did "jiggle" a few things and sprayed lubercant on some of the wires. Im guessing thats were the problem came from? Ill poke around some more and see if i can find that cord you talking about.

Thanks a ton for your help so far!
