Unhappy Passlock Start Failure becoming more frequent

Just as the subject explains, I have experienced two passlock related start failures in the past three days. I have read that the problem becomes more persistent over time but what is the end fix to prevent this from happening ever again? The last time that I had a failure prior to these two was over two months ago. Can anyone confirm that getting a remote car starter installed circumvents the passlock functionality? Or, does anyone have a ballpark figure on how much it costs to have the passlock failures professionally fixed? I have just come to the realization that I cannot continue to spend 10 minutes to start my car each time this happens. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Passlock Start Failure becoming more frequent

If you havnt read already this is pretty common on all GM.
Thiers several fixes but none are guarenteed unless the person trouble shoting knows what they are doing.

Most likly the ignition lock cylinder or the ignition switch is the culprit. But I have heard of these being replaced and the problem still happens. Thats after the $150 lock and $400 switch

So that leaves the pcm or some other wiring problem.
On the alarm, it just kinda by passes the security feature and doesnt always solve the problem either.

In fact a lot of the passlock issues I have seen already had a aftermarket alarm installed and that was causing thier issues.

So If you have the money, I'd say bite the bullet and take it to the stealership. They have the almighty Tech II scanners, which are realy needed for this type of issue to be diagnosed.
